Clay Sport

There are four major disciplines of competitive clay pigeon shooting (shooting shotguns at clay targets). They are Sporting Clays, Skeet, Trap, and Five Stand. These are distinguished roughly as follows:

Sporting Clays includes a more complex course, with many launch points including open field and woodland. The course simulates upland bird and rabbit hunting. See the video of the 2021 Cabin Fever Open on the (then) new course: https://youtu.be/RTlgVpVWL-E 

This project was funded in part by a grant from the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department. 

Skeet shooting: Targets are launched from two "houses" in somewhat "sideways" paths that intersect in front of the shooter.

Trap shooting: Targets are launched from a single "house" or machine, generally away from the shooter at varying angles.

Five Stand is implemented on a combination Skeet / Trap field. Shooting is from the 16 to 27 yard trap pads. Nine fixed traps are the nucleus of our throwers. However, additional throwers may also be used. Target presentations include: 40 yd crossers, overheads, true pairs, chandelle and teals.

Rifle and Pistol Shooting

The pistol range is 25 yards.

We now have a variety of long-range target options set up, including new hanging steel plates ranging from 12” down to 4” at our furthest placement yet 425 yards — which isn't exactly 600 yards, but still a fantastic stretch.
